Committed to Sustainability
At Hotel Jazz, we’re committed not just to the well-being of our guests and visitors, but also to that of the planet as a whole. Each and every day, we strive to minimize our impact on the environment by embracing energy efficiency and offering services that conserve natural resources.
We’ve earned the Biosphere Sustainable Lifestyle certification, showcasing our commitment to Biosphere Sustainable Tourism, supported by Barcelona Tourism, the Chamber of Commerce, and the Barcelona City Hall. We’re also part of Barcelona + Sustainable, a network of over 1,000 organizations committed to environmental, social, and economic sustainability that collectively work to enhance the city’s respect for its inhabitants and its environment. This commitment is aligned with the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, through the World Charter for Sustainable Tourism +20.
Hotel Jazz has also earned the SAFE TRAVEL seal, the first global certification for health and safety in the hospitality industry, awarded by the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC), safeguarding the health and security of all our guests.
To reduce our environmental impact and conserve energy, we embrace a no paper philosophy, so we relay all necessary information to our guests via the in-room Smart TV. We also encourage our guests to use resources responsibly and offer an opt-in towel change service. To promote the equitable use of resources, we have installed soap dispensers in all bathrooms.
Recently, the Jazz Hotel has joined the program for Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Projects for Tourism companies, of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (C14.14I2) financed by the European Union – Next Generation EU, with the support of the General Directorate of Tourism of the Department of Business and Employment of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The award of this grant from Next Generation EU funds (amounting to 319,197.02€ and with a total budget of 982,068.08€) has made it possible to achieve the objective of carrying out minor works at the Jazz Hotel without making any changes to the building's exterior. The project has included replacing the air conditioning and DHW production equipment, resulting in a significant energy improvement. (changing our grading from C to B).
More specifically, the objective of the Jazz Hotel Interior Renovation project (SEC041/22/000052) has focused on updating the cooling and heating systems with aerothermal air conditioning systems and replacing the DHW system with solar thermal energy.
Regarding the efficiency of the facilities, these improvements have been made by replacing the solar thermal panels on the roof with more efficient photometric panels. The air conditioning and DHW generation system, which consisted of 17 VRV outdoor units that provided air conditioning to the entire building, has also been replaced with higher-performance equivalent units (Daikin RQEQ140P3). Furthermore, the two natural gas boilers providing DHW service have been replaced with two 40kW compact air-to-water heat pumps based on E744 (CO2) refrigerant for the production of hot water up to 90°C (MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC). Thanks to the project, the indoor air conditioning units have also been replaced, maintaining the existing refrigerant ducts, ducts, and grilles. The DHW installation was completed with the installation of two water-to-water hydraulic modules with a plate heat exchanger, secondary circulation pump, and primary buffer tank. The existing water storage tanks were replaced with six 1,500-liter tanks (four of which are used for storage produced by CO2 units and the other two for solar storage). Finally, the installation of these tanks required the construction of a new metal frame to distribute the weight.
With all these improvements made to the Jazz Hotel thanks to the aid granted for Energy Efficiency and Circular Economy Projects for Tourism Companies under the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan (C14.14I2) funded by the European Union – Next Generation EU, a considerable energy improvement has been achieved, reducing CO2 emissions from 47.1 kg CO2/m2 year to 28.0 kg CO2/m2 year.
We believe that the difference lies in the details, and we distribute sustainable pens to guests upon request.
We believe that each step towards sustainability counts. And we invite our guests and visitors to recognize the importance of their efforts towards protecting the environment and safeguarding the health of the planet, during their time at Hotel Jazz and beyond.
